Breakthrough Technology Disables Drones In The Battlefield

About this Event

Applied Energetics [OTCQB: AERG] is a pioneer in photonic and fiber-based laser technology. They are developing the next generation of ultrashort pulse (USP) lasers for the Department of Defense, the intelligence community, and for commercial, medical, space and national security applications.

Ultrashort pulse lasers deliver intense bursts of energy – up to 50 billion watts – and can be directed precisely at targets at significant distances. This is enough energy to destroy optical and infrared sensors in less than a second. One of the first applications for this technology is to protect military assets and personnel from drones.

Drones have become increasingly common tools on the battlefield for both surveillance and as weapons. The need to find ways to neutralize the threat they pose is now a priority for the United States Military. The DoD is working with Applied Energetics to develop their USPL technology as a defense against small drones. The high energy, ultra short bursts of light destroy the drone’s optical sensors, rendering them useless.

Applied Energetics’ USPL design, however, is about the size of two shoeboxes. It can be powered by the electrical system of a vehicle like a Humvee and will be rugged enough to stand up to battlefield use.
